Of Film Festivals

Keeping up with her theme of wearing white in-line with her character, Alia sported white at the Berlin Film Festival as well. For the photo-call, it was a suit by Nobi Talai and the premiere saw her in a sari by Rimple and Harpreet.

The white looks were striking but can’t say I liked the sari itself. It’s not my taste. As for the suit, and this is a minor gripe, the puckering at the lapels was a bit of a distraction. I also didn’t care for the big earrings.

What say you of her outings?

  1. I feel they (stylists? SLB?) are recreating Deepika’s looks on Alia. She looks nice but meh. Wish stylists would identify their clients individual style aesthetic and body type and dress for that.

  2. Love both the looks. I am so happy she wore a saree for starters and it is a saree I wouldnt mind wearing. The western look is less exciting but I like the overall look and her make up is lovely and fresh.

  3. You guys didn’t post the best look – the white gown!

The saree funnily took me down memory lane to Priyanka Chopra’s white MM saree at the same festival 10 years ago!

As for the suit, I like everything (earrings et al) except the jacket, but it still works for me.

  4. The stylists got the actors mixed up. Deepika had done these looks five years ago and sorry to say, don’t suit Alia. The saree looks very cheap and she is drowning in that suit. Alia’s looks from the Gully Boy promos at the same Berlinale were much in line with her style.

  5. I tend to deviate towards classy timeless pieces so I like the second look but pants have major length issues. Plus, a shorter blazer would have looked better on Alia.

  6. the suit is definitely a size too big for her. and the R&H, it looks like we did as kids, when we wrapped our mum’s shawl around us as a faux saree while playing dress-up.

  7. The make up in sari look is ageing her.. foundation and bronzer seemed to be in abundance in her vanity.. all that has made it to her face… Nose is sparkling like a diamond .. not in a good way..! looks amateurish .. the white jacket look is much cleaner, fresher if i ignore the fit issues..! Overall looks over done

    • Oops. I downvoted by mistake! Was going for the reply button.

I noticed the freckles in all of her looks. I wondered too if they were natural. Haven’t seen them before on her.

  8. Does any one think that the moment these actors are in the west, there is a heavy use of bronzer and/or darker foundation shade and in India the lighter foundation shade (and more of highlighter).
It sounds silly to say saree with slinky blouse and center parted tight bun is deepika-ish. But it really is. Smokey eye and black bindi is sabya-ish. Nothing here is specific to Alia.
