Samantha attended the Elle Sustainability Awards wearing her wedding gown that was re-purposed into a black strapless one. Upon asking for more transparency, Kresha’s team clarified for me how much of the original gown was used and how it was re-purposed and it was good to see that a lot of it was not wasted.

Did Samantha look nice here? Absolutely. But, the true sustainability test here is if we see her wear the repurposed gown way more than once.

  1. The white gown is gorgeous and could’ve been reworn, sold off, rented out, as is. Idk what’s sustainable in cutting dyeing, redoing the whole gown into another new one, in different colours, structure and all. It’s half the damage of a new one, but it still is.

      • I mean celebrities are most responsible for fashion related environmental damage, just stop buying new season..! Like wear what you’ve bought over the years, that’s only when designers will stop damaging water and land resources for something as unimportant as couture. Retail and fashion, hands down are biggest perpetrators of pollution, and celebrities are hand in hand endorsing and making money off it.

  2. Calling it a big f*** you is great statement! But sustainable is a joke. I think using old sarees or drapes etc would be great. Taking a perfectly lovely dress (which must have cost a bomb in time and effort) and mashing it up with more labor, chemicals and time is not the idea of sustainable. If you are being bold then go all the way and make that statement.

  3. I didn’t like the recreation at all, it looks quite bad. The original gown looked gorgeous and could’ve been given to someone else as is to wear or repurposed differently.

The original dress could’ve been dyed as is and then just shortened, with the lower half into an A-line or with a slit to remove the princessy puffiness. Instead this looks like a cut and paste craft project version that quite ruined the beauty of the OG. The top part was so stunning on the white gown that’s replaced by a horrendous corset.

Its just more landfill as I don’t see Samantha sporting this again as the sustainable statement has already been made and press released!

    • Seriously.. she brought down a brand new gown because it was her wedding gown. Unless they wear it like us again n again until it becomes home wear, then upholstery, then a rag n then dump it’s not sustainable.
