Seeing Red

Sonam attended the Ambani Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla backless choli, skirt and churidaar set. Her jewellery was a set of earrings with hair chains, haath phools and a gold bag. She also added red alta to her hand and feet. It’s Sonam so all details are very thought out to make an outfit a “look”. Having said that, perhaps this outfit was better reserved for a different occasion?

  1. It doesn’t look festive. It doesn’t look well designed. It doesn’t look stylish or remotely classic. I don’t get it at all
If just the fact that it’s likely an expensive outfit because it is coming from ajsk house along with pricey jewelry, then it’s just a plain show of wealth to a wealthy host with no impact whatsoever

  2. I am still waiting for the day when style divas actually pay money to local weaves and handcrafted stuff procured from highly skilled local weavers and artists and actually make an impact versus solely spending on designer stuff that don’t look nice at all or have any semblance of thought put into cookie cutter outfits are absolutely blah stuff

    • Yes but the Ambani do’s are mostly to market the brands where they have invested in – i.e AJSK and MM. won’t be surprised if there was a subliminal diktat to the invitees to choose something from the above labels.

      • Which is so sad. They are in a position to actually do the complete opposite to encourage and support true artists and indigenous crafts men/ women to keep the weaves alive. It can be incredibly fashion forward too, in fact so much more up there instead of this red me$$ sonams sporting…

  3. Alta…..I am happy to see she used an occasion to just wear it. I am guessing she’d go bare feet inside. Its a bit too red, footwear could be different given the outfit but otherwise she looks good.

  4. Sonam tries so hard to pull off an editorial “look” in a real life puja event. It’s like she is in costume, playing a “part”. Lord she takes herself toooo seriously as a fashionista even after all these years, refusing to move on!!

    This looks actually comical TBH

    • You nailed it! I understand maximalism – this is not it. She is always in costume. The alta is the most ridiculous part of it. She could be wearing it at home or an at-home blessing event. To wear it to the Ambanis’ Ganesh Chaturthi – did she walk around with no footwear? These are actually better photos than the ones I saw with family, the haughty fashionista look. Her mom should be featured too – she looked even more ridiculous than Sonam.

      • Went and checked after this comment & Sunita Kapoor looked fine to me, nice jewellery, pretty hairdo.. what am I missing here?
I mean there were chattris on her outfit but otherwise it was a well put together outfit?

  5. I actually liked the outfit. Agree its a bit OTT but It’s better than wearing itsi-bitsi cholis over lehengas without dupattas. Just wish she’d added a bindi.
On a side thought she could’ve rocked Durga Pooja in this look.

  6. She looks like she’s stepped out of a Bhansali set, beautiful but constumy. If I didn’t know know any better I thought she was in character to promote a movie.

  7. Can we please stop judging one’s dressing. She’s happy wearing what she felt like wearing. On the one side people say we have the liberty to wear what we want and then when we see this we call out. Forget the occasion, forget the maker of this dress, forget she is dressed up not for a drama….. is the dressing nice or not? Also, so many people call out about not supporting designers , they too are providing jobs to people who work with/for them. We have to keep in mind every one is doing their bit in some ways.

    • I find this funny, almost like don’t go to a restaurant, bar, xyz.. it’ll cause the staff to work.
A lot of websites, media, photographers, pr, designers, IT, tech, finance, editorial, logistics, small businesses.. a whole lot of fashion business world runs on ‘website comments/judging’.

  8. So it’s just a backless choli, lehenga worn with a churidar? So her team decided to amp up this boring , lack of vision or design outfit with Alta on her hands & feet lol .

  9. Honestly, I would have liked to see some colour on her face – like a brighter lip colour, or a quirky bindi, maybe loose hair. I also have to say that it feels like she is wearing Osho chappals – I wish she had worn something else on her feet.
